Fair Trade

We are pleased to announce our official membership of the Fairtrade foundation.

Fairtrade coffee from Costa Rica is now being roasted at our state of the art coffee roasting plant.

The coffee is bought directly from farmers’ organisations at a guaranteed price. Fairtrade means, that by bypassing the international commodity market and buying from Farmers' Associations or co-operatives, the farmers get a greater share of the rewards of their labour.

Fairtrade coffee producers are generally small, family run farms working through co-operatives for marketing and export where employment practices, environmental management and worker participation structures meet international Fairtrade standards.

Producers must be able to demonstrate that they can meet market requirements for quality, consistency and continuity of supply as well as the capacity to process orders for export to qualify for Fairtrade status. To avoid dependency on Fairtrade, producers are encouraged to maintain and develop existing export business.

To qualify for the Fairtrade mark, products must originate from registered producers and be purchased under Fairtrade terms. The Fairtrade mark is the only independent guarantee that internationally recognises standards for Fairtrade.
